Karachi Watch is a glance-tool for the city — colored zones tell you how risky an area tends to be right now, based on public reporting and community input.

The 30-second guide

Step 1

Read the colors

Dark red → safer as you move toward green. Each hex is roughly 900m across so nothing is street-precise. Tap any zone for the score, source list, and top-risk hours.

Step 2

Scrub the time

The map defaults to Now. Slide the hour bar or pick a weekday to preview what an area looks like at, say, 2am on a Saturday. Share the URL — the time travels with it.

Step 3

Report an incident

Tap the pink + button. You need to be physically near the spot — your GPS is checked at submit. No names, no photos required, and you can pick a broad category (snatching, robbery, harassment, etc.).

Step 4

Share what you see

Every zone card has a Share button — send a friend the exact score, hour, and area so they know what to expect on the ride home.

Frequently asked

Where does the data come from?+

Two layers. The seed comes from public reporting — Dawn, The News, Tribune, CPLC statistics on Karachi's snatching hotspots. On top of that, community reports from people inside the city nudge the score up or down. Full source list on the About page.

Can I trust community reports?+

A zone only turns "reported" once two different devices submit within 30 days. Each submission is GPS-checked (you have to be within ~900m of the zone), and rate-limited to 3 reports/hour per device. Weight decays over 30 days.

Why so coarse? Why not show streets?+

On purpose. A snatcher's map is not something we're going to publish. ~900m hexes are useful for you and useless for someone trying to pick a corner.

Does it work offline?+

Install it as a PWA (Chrome / Safari → "Add to Home Screen"). The last map view and scores are cached, so you get a usable snapshot even on patchy signal.

Will it notify me?+

Not yet — push alerts for "your area's risk just spiked" are on the roadmap. Android (Chrome) and iOS 16.4+ both support PWA push once we ship it.

I found a wrong zone / missing hotspot. How do I fix it?+

Email iamnomisg@gmail.com with the area name and, if possible, a link to a news source. Corrections ship within a day or two.

Is my report anonymous?+

Yes. We store a hashed device ID for rate-limiting only — no name, no phone number, no login. Reports are never shown individually to other users, only aggregated per zone.

A note from the maker

This won't stop a snatching. It's a small tool to help you plan around Karachi's worst hours — the ride home, the late errand, the walk from the parking lot. Use it with your own judgment, and please report what you see. The map gets better every time someone does.
